Space Racer

October 4, 2026

A ship a hand's width off the deck. A neon circuit through a huge night. The corner arrives before your hands do, and the only honest plan is to hold the racing line. That feeling belonged to Wipeout. A lot of us have been waiting to meet it again in a browser tab.

Space Racer is the most ambitious spare part I have tried to bolt together. A full night circuit, six ships to a field, a voice calling the laps, and three courses if you are good enough to see them. The familiar part is the anti-gravity race. The rude part is what the track does while you are still on it.

What you already know

Steer. Boost. Brake. Three laps. Stay between the rails, because they are not decoration. Drift off the marked line and the shields start paying for the mistake. Finish the lap, hear the call, do it again faster. That is the fantasy: speed, a glowing circuit, and the small panic of a bend that will not wait.

Scrap Heap Games does not invent that fantasy. The comfort of recognition is the launchpad. You sit down thinking you know how to hold a racing line. That is when the line stops being empty.

The twist: crates fall on the line

A clean anti-gravity race lets you fight the corner. Space Racer lets the racing line fight back. Crates drop onto the circuit in front of you. You do not shoot them. You jump them. Catch the jump and the line is yours again. Miss it and the crate is yours instead.

The racing line is not clear. Jump the crate, or become the crate.

Everything else is there to make that one rule hurt. Boost makes the crate arrive sooner. The rails punish you for dodging wide. A coin off the racing line is a temptation with a price. One course even opens a gap, and the ramp is only a suggestion.

It is still one twist. Thin is allowed on the heap, and this one is not that thin. The one-line test holds: an adrenaline-fuelled space racer, except crates fall on the racing line.

Six ships, top three

You are not racing a clock in an empty tunnel. Six ships take the start. Finish in the top three and the next course loads with your score still in your pocket. Finish fourth or worse and the run is over. The announcer will tell you which lap you are on. The field will not slow down to let you listen.

The tension is not “can I finish three laps.” It is “can I hold the line while the line keeps filling up, and still be ahead of five other ships when it clears.”

Why this one belongs on the heap

Like Chaos Pong and Save the Invaders, Space Racer starts with a shape you already have in your hands, then bends one rule until the fantasy feels different. Here the bent rule is the racing line itself. The night, the glow, and the speed are the Wipeout memory. The crates are the reason it is a Scrap Heap game.

If you want the biggest circuit I have built, and a race that will not stay clear, play it here. Hold the rails. Jump the crates. Finish top three.
